SC Upholds Wankhede Promotion, Dismisses Government Appeal
Sameer Wankhede is an officer who was in charge of a big drug raid on a cruise ship.
After the raid, some people said he did things wrong.
The government started to punish him, but a special court called the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) said that was not fair.
The CAT said the government was being mean and unfair to Wankhede.
They said the government was trying to hurt Wankhede because he did his job well and caught bad people.
The CAT told the government to stop punishing Wankhede and said the charges against him were not right.
Wankhede has won many awards for his work and has been involved in big cases, like the one involving Aryan Khan.
The CAT said the government should not have tried to punish Wankhede and that they should follow the rules.
The Supreme Court agreed with the CAT and the High Court, and said Wankhede should be promoted.
The Supreme Court upheld the Delhi High Court's decision to promote Sameer Wankhede to Joint Commissioner of Customs and Indirect Taxes.
The High Court had affirmed a CAT order directing the government to promote Wankhede, subject to eligibility criteria and UPSC approval.
The Supreme Court dismissed the central government's petition challenging the High Court's decision.
The High Court noted that no formal departmental inquiries were active against Wankhede, and preliminary investigations alone are insufficient to block a promotion.
Wankhede was involved in high-profile cases, including the Cordelia cruise drug bust and the Sushant Singh Rajput case, and has received 26 accolades over 18 years of service.
