Bombay HC Criticizes Kanjurmarg Dumping Ground Management
The Bombay High Court is upset because a big trash dump in Kanjurmarg, Mumbai, keeps smelling bad and making people sick.
The court told the people in charge to fix the problem, but they haven't done a good job.
The court wants them to take better care of the trash and listen to the people who live nearby.
The court also added someone from the neighborhood to a group that checks on the trash dump to make sure things get better.
The next time the court will check on the problem is in February 2026.
Bombay High Court directed contractor and civic authorities to address persistent odour and gas emissions from Kanjurmarg solid waste management facility.
Court expressed dissatisfaction with the handling of complaints and the delay in implementing remedial measures.
Contractor claimed to have addressed nearly 300 complaints, but the court found the response inadequate.
Court allowed petitioners' nominee to be added to the monitoring committee and participate in a site visit to Lucknow.
Next hearing scheduled for February 23, 2026, to review compliance and progress.
