Strait of Hormuz Stays Locked; Iran Refuses US Talks

The Strait of Hormuz is a narrow waterway that many ships use to carry oil around the world.

For more than six months, Iran has kept the strait closed, stopping most ships from passing through.

The United States attacked Iran and now wants the waterway to open again, but it has run out of easy options.

Iran says it will not talk until the US fixes its side of a June 14 agreement.

Iran's foreign minister said there is no chance of new talks while America keeps violating that agreement.

Iran is also making a deal with Oman, which owns part of the strait, so it can keep control of the passage.

The closed strait is hurting countries that depend on selling oil, like Qatar and Abu Dhabi.

Some oil tankers have been attacked, and Yemen's Houthi rebels have announced a blockade of Saudi ports.

Iran wants the US to pay for damage the war caused.

The US is under pressure to end a war it started, with few options left.
