Maharashtra Mandates EV Charging Stations at Fuel Pumps
The Maharashtra Transport Minister, Pratap Sarnaik, has ordered that electric vehicle (EV) charging stations must be installed at all new fuel pumps on MSRTC land.
This is part of a plan to make transportation more environmentally friendly.
Currently, most buses in Maharashtra run on diesel, but the government is slowly switching to electric buses.
The new fuel pumps will have both regular fuel and EV charging stations, which will make things easier for people and help the environment.
The minister believes this is an important step for the future of transportation in India.
Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik directed the installation of EV charging stations at all new fuel outlets on MSRTC premises.
The directive was issued during a high-level meeting with senior officials and fuel company representatives.
A phased transition to electric buses is already underway, with e-buses prioritized in future procurements.
EV charging stations will be mandatory alongside diesel and CNG facilities at fuel pumps established on MSRTC land through the PPP model.
The initiative aims to create a steady revenue source for MSRTC and ensure the availability of both conventional and electric charging facilities at a single location.
