India’s Non-Life Premiums Rise 10% as Health Leads Growth

India’s non-life insurance companies collected more money in August than they did a year earlier.

Total premiums grew by 10% to ₹27,455 crore.

Health insurance was the biggest reason for the increase.

Health premiums rose 18% and made up almost 40% of all August premiums.

Retail health insurance grew even faster, by 32.5%.

Crop insurance also jumped because some states gave farmers more time to enroll.

Motor insurance continued to grow, but more slowly because fewer vehicles were registered.

The report said the slower growth outside fire and crop insurance did not necessarily mean people wanted less retail insurance.

Growth in retail health insurance may slow later because of changes in the comparison base related to GST.
