Supreme Court Limits NCSC's Powers in Service Matters

Supreme Court Limits NCSC's Powers in Service Matters

The Supreme Court recently ruled that the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) does not have the power to issue binding orders in service matters.

The NCSC is a constitutional body that protects the interests of Scheduled Castes.

The case involved an employee named Madhavi K Chandorkar who was demoted by the Mumbai Port Authority.

The NCSC had directed the Port Authority to grant promotions and pay arrears to Chandorkar, but the Supreme Court overturned this decision.

The court stated that the NCSC's role is to advise and recommend, not to make judicial decisions.

This means the NCSC can suggest actions but cannot force organizations to follow them.
