Indian Railways Upgrades Tracks for Faster Train Speeds
Indian Railways has significantly improved its tracks, allowing trains to go faster.
A much larger part of the railway network can now handle speeds of 110 kilometers per hour or more.
This means that trains can travel more quickly on a larger percentage of the tracks.
Also, the portion of tracks that allow very high speeds (above 130 kmph) has increased a lot.
The government has upgraded the tracks to enable the trains to go at a much higher speed which results in a better commuting experience.
80% of Indian Railways network now supports speeds of 110+ kmph.
Track length supporting speeds of 130 kmph and above has increased nearly five times since 2014.
In 2014, only 40% of the network supported speeds above 110 kmph.
The total track length assessed for sectional speed has increased by 26,330 km between 2014 and 2025.
The share of tracks supporting speeds below 110 kmph has dropped from 60.4% to 21.6%.
