German Private Rocket Reaches Orbit from Western Europe
A German company called Isar Aerospace launched its Spectrum rocket from Norway.
The rocket reached space and entered orbit around Earth.
This was the first successful orbital launch from Western European soil.
Spectrum had failed during its first flight in March 2025.
The company fixed problems and overcame several later delays before trying again.
On this flight, the rocket carried five small satellites and a science experiment.
Isar hopes Spectrum will regularly launch satellites for customers.
The company says its factory near Munich could make more than 30 rockets each year.
Isar Aerospace’s Spectrum rocket reached orbit from Andøya Space Centre in northern Norway on September 5.
The launch marked the first time a rocket achieved orbit from Western European soil.
Spectrum reached orbit on its second flight after an anomaly caused its first mission to fail in March 2025.
The rocket deployed five CubeSats and carried a non-deployable scientific experiment.
Isar Aerospace designed Spectrum to carry about 1,000 kilograms to low Earth orbit and plans to produce more than 30 rockets annually.
