Telangana PCB Struggles to Locate Missing Lakes
The Telangana Pollution Control Board is having a hard time finding two lakes, Dodlavani Kunta and Bogamdani Kunta, in Hyderabad.
They asked the city officials to help find them.
The board also says that many lakes are either dry or too dirty to use.
They found that almost all the lakes have something called coliform bacteria, which means the water is not clean.
One lake, Pedda Cheruvu, is so dirty that it's like a big pool of sewage.
The board is worried because many lakes are being taken over by plants or buildings, making it hard to check their water quality.
Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) is unable to locate two lakes, Dodlavani Kunta and Bogamdani Kunta, in Gajularamam, Kukatpally zone.
The PCB has asked the GHMC to help identify the missing lakes.
Encroachments and water hyacinth infestations have made it difficult to access and monitor many lakes.
Of 185 lakes and tanks, only 15 received water from January to September, while 22 are dry.
All 119 tested water bodies had coliform bacteria, making them unfit for human use, with Pedda Cheruvu having over 1,600 coliforms in 100 ml of water.
