Student Suicides in India See Rise in Recent Years

The number of student suicides in India has been increasing.

In 2023, there were nearly 14,000 student suicides, which is a 34% rise since 2019 and a 65% increase compared to 2013.

Student suicides represent about 8.1% of all suicides in 2023.

Overall suicide rates in the country have also risen, but at a lower rate than student suicides.

Daily wage earners, housewives, and self-employed persons were other groups with significant suicide numbers in 2023.
