Meta's $7 Billion Scam Ad Revenue Draws Government Scrutiny

Meta's $7 Billion Scam Ad Revenue Draws Government Scrutiny

Meta is a very big company that owns Facebook and Instagram.

A report says Meta makes a lot of money, about $7 billion every year, from scam ads.

Scam ads are fake advertisements that trick people into giving away their money.

Meta told a government that it had been paid to boost certain content on its apps.

The company's computers were supposed to catch bad ads, but they only banned advertisers when they were almost completely sure it was a scam.

Reports also say that in 2023 Meta ignored most of the scam reports people sent in.

Another report found ads selling videos of children, which is very wrong, for very little money.

Because of this, the government asked Meta's top leaders to come and answer questions.

Meta says it fights scams and doesn't want bad content on its apps.

Some people think Meta still needs to do much more to protect everyone.
