Tungabhadra Dam Upgrade Underway, Shivakumar Addresses Farmer Concerns
The person in charge of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar, said that they are fixing all the big doors, called crest gates, at the Tungabhadra dam.
He explained that this work is important for keeping the dam safe.
Some people are trying to make it a big deal about getting water for another crop, but Shivakumar asked farmers to think about whether the dam's safety or the crop is more important right now.
He mentioned that a special group set up by the national government will decide about the water.
He also talked about helping farmers who grow silkworms in the Kudligi area by possibly building a special market for them nearby.
This is good news because more people want to buy their silk now.
All crest gates of the Tungabhadra dam are being replaced as part of an ongoing upgrade project.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar urged farmers to prioritize dam safety over immediate water release for the second crop.
The Tungabhadra Board, established by the Central Government, holds the final authority on water release decisions.
Concerns were raised about attempts to politicize the water release issue for farmers.
