EPF wage ceiling likely to rise from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000

EPF wage ceiling likely to rise from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000

Many adult workers in India save some money every month for when they grow old.

This savings plan is called the Provident Fund, and it also helps give them a monthly pension after retirement.

Right now, the government only requires companies to join this plan for workers who earn up to ₹15,000 a month.

The government is thinking about raising that limit to ₹25,000.

If this happens, more workers would be able to save for retirement automatically.

The company and the worker would both put in money each month, and part of that money goes into a pension fund.

When they retire, they would get a monthly pension, and that pension could be bigger than before.

But workers who newly join the plan would have a little less money in their monthly salary because their savings would increase.

The idea still needs approval from the Union Cabinet, so it is not a rule yet.

If it is approved, the change might start around April 2027.
