Government Procurement from Women-Led Businesses Nears 3% Target
The Indian government is trying to buy more goods and services from businesses run by women.
The goal is to have 3% of all government purchases come from these businesses.
In the first few months of the year, the government got close to that goal, reaching 2.82%.
This is a good sign because the government has missed the target in the past.
The government has special programs and rules to help women-led businesses succeed, like offering them more financial help.
Women-led businesses have been increasing, going from about 20% of all small businesses in 2022 to almost 40% in 2025.
The government's procurement from women-led MSEs reached 2.82% in the first five months of FY26, nearing the 3% target.
Purchases from these businesses totaled ₹1,961 crore during this period.
In FY25, the government procured goods and services worth ₹6,000 crore from women-led MSEs.
The share of women-led MSEs has grown, reaching almost 40% in September 2025.
Government schemes provide special benefits like higher credit guarantees and subsidies to women-led businesses.
