Greece Rescues 545 Migrants Near Gavdos

Greece's Coast Guard rescued 545 migrants from a fishing boat near the island of Gavdos.

They were found about 30 kilometers from the island and are being taken to the port of Agia Galini on the island of Crete.

This is one of the largest groups to reach Greece in recent months.

Many migrants come from Libya and try to reach Europe through Greece.

Greece, along with Cyprus, Spain, and Italy, will get help from the European Union to handle these situations starting in mid-2026.

The Greek government wants to send back people who are not allowed to stay.
