West Bengal 7th pay panel proposes pay parity, 5% increment

The state government of West Bengal asked a group of experts to study how their workers are paid.

These workers include teachers, clerks and other people who work for the state.

The group, called the Seventh Pay Commission, wants state workers to be paid almost the same as people who work for the whole country.

Right now, workers get a yearly raise of three per cent, and the group wants to raise that to at least five per cent.

They also want workers who retire to get back part of their pension after 11 years.

If a worker retires on June 30, they should get one last pay step, they say.

Workers should also get a better health plan with full cashless treatment.

The group also wants workers to move up in their jobs more often, after 5, 8, 12, 18 and 24 years of work.

If the ideas are accepted, workers would get the new pay starting January 1, 2026.

The group is still studying, so nothing has changed yet.
