BPCL Urges Court to Lift Stay on Judge‑Owned LPG Distributorship
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) is a big oil company in India.
They own a small LPG (gas) shop called M/s Kitchen Flame.
The shop was owned by a retired judge named Siddharth Mridul.
BPCL says Mridul broke the rules by keeping the shop while he was a judge.
Because of this, BPCL stopped giving gas to the shop on July 6, 2024.
Mridul’s shop had about 18,000 customers.
BPCL wants the court to undo the stop so the shop can keep giving gas.
The Delhi High Court is looking at the case and will decide on August 28, 2024.
BPCL filed an appeal to lift the stay on the suspension of LPG distributorship owned by retired judge Siddharth Mridul.
Delhi High Court division bench urged a single‑judge bench to expedite the case, refusing to entertain the appeal.
The dispute centers on Mridul allegedly breaching the distributorship agreement by remaining proprietor while serving as a judge.
The distributorship, M/s Kitchen Flame, had its LPG supplies suspended on July 6, 2024, affecting 17,920 consumers.
A single‑judge bench of Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma is scheduled to hear the matter on August 28, 2024.
