India's Power Demand Climbs in July After Months of Decline
In July, India's electricity use went up by 2.4% after a couple of months of decrease.
This rise in demand was driven by strong industrial activity.
The price of electricity in the real-time market also went down.
More power came from water and renewable sources, while coal was still the main source.
Experts believe that the total power demand this year will grow but at a slower pace than last year, due to expectation of normal monsoon.
July power demand rose 2.4% to 154 billion units.
This increase contrasts with the degrowth in May and June.
Real-time market price fell 23% year-on-year in July to Rs 3.83/unit.
Hydropower generation increased 36% and renewable energy rose 7.2%.
Coal accounted for 63% of total power output in July.
