Indian Energy Exchange Reports May Trading Data
In May 2025, more electricity was traded on the Indian Energy Exchange, but the prices went down.
This happened because it rained more than usual and the monsoon came early, so people didn't need as much electricity.
At the same time, there was more electricity being made from water, wind, and heat.
This extra electricity made prices lower, making it cheaper for companies to buy electricity.
The Day-Ahead Market saw a volume decrease, but the Real-Time Market hit a record high.
The Green Market also saw growth, and there were Renewable Energy Certificates traded.
Overall, the lower prices were good for businesses buying electricity.
IEX reported a 14% year-on-year increase in electricity traded volume in May 2025, reaching 10,946 MU.
The Real-Time Market (RTM) saw its highest-ever monthly volume at 4,770 MU, a 42% increase.
The Day-Ahead Market (DAM) volume decreased by 20% to 3,510 MU compared to the previous year.
Market Clearing Prices in both DAM and RTM declined significantly due to reduced demand and increased supply.
Unseasonal weather reduced demand, while increased generation led to lower prices.
