ECI Summons Politicians' Families for Voter List Verification
The Election Commission in India has asked the family members of two politicians, MLA Nabin Chandra Bag and MP Kakali Ghosh Dastidar, to come for a meeting.
This is because their names were not found when the commission was checking the voter list.
The politicians say their family members' names have been on the voter list for many years and think this is being done to trouble them.
The local government official says this happened because of a computer problem and many other people in the area are facing the same issue.
The Election Commission is calling many people for these meetings to check the voter list.
ECI summoned family members of MLA Nabin Chandra Bag and MP Kakali Ghosh Dastidar for voter list verification.
Names of the family members could not be traced during the mapping process.
Politicians claim their family members' names were in the 2002 electoral roll and allege political motive.
East Burdwan District Magistrate attributes the issue to technical glitches, with around 10,000 similar cases identified in the district.
ECI's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is calling 32 lakh 'unmapped' voters for hearings in the first phase.
