Thackeray Warns of Maharashtra Bandh After Protesters Detained

A group called the Cockroach Janta Party wants India’s chief election commissioner to resign.

Its supporters tried to protest in Mumbai, but police said the gathering did not have permission and detained some people.

Leaders from Shiv Sena (UBT) and MNS came to support the protesters.

Aaditya Thackeray climbed onto a police van and asked police to release the detained people.

He warned that his party could call a Maharashtra-wide shutdown if its workers were mistreated.

Amit Thackeray also questioned why protesters were being detained.

The leaders later said the detained protesters had been released.

Police were present in large numbers while the confrontation unfolded.
