Karnataka Prepares for Drought Amid Rainfall Deficit
The Chief Minister of Karnataka, D K Shivakumar, had a meeting with officials to talk about a possible drought.
He said that because there hasn't been much rain, farmers might have a hard time.
He told the officials to check the situation on the ground and not just look at papers.
They need to make sure farmers have water to drink and food for their animals.
The government is giving money to help, and the officials have to use it well.
If they don't do their jobs right, they will be in trouble.
The Deputy CM also said that the drought is very bad and getting worse.
They are telling farmers not to grow crops that need a lot of water.
Karnataka CM D K Shivakumar directed officials to prepare for a potential drought due to a 60% rainfall deficit.
Officials were warned against negligence and unverified reports, with strict action promised for misconduct.
Priority areas include drinking water, fodder for livestock, crop insurance, and borewell drilling in rural areas.
The government has sanctioned an additional Rs 1 crore for every rural taluk to meet drinking water requirements.
A second round of drought assessment was directed, with comprehensive district-wise information to be compiled within 15 days.
