Book Review: S.Y. Quraishi’s India Told Through Hundred Memories
S.Y. Quraishi wrote a book about his life in an unusual way.
Instead of telling everything in strict order, he shares many short memories.
These memories include his childhood, education, work and love of music.
He also writes about serving as India’s chief election commissioner.
The reviewer says Quraishi does not make himself seem more important than everyone else.
He focuses on lessons learned from ordinary events and people.
Some readers may want more secrets about his public career.
Other readers may enjoy the simple and thoughtful stories about his life.
S.Y. Quraishi’s book presents his life through incidents, anecdotes, stories and interactions rather than a conventional memoir.
The narrative covers his childhood in old Delhi, education, entry into the IAS, music interests and public service.
The review highlights Quraishi’s role as chief election commissioner and his contribution to Indian democracy and the Election Commission.
The book is praised for its concise, candid and unglorified writing, though some stories are considered overly brief.
Readers seeking controversial revelations may be disappointed, while those interested in reflective life stories are likely to find it rewarding.
