Indian diaspora sets Guinness flag record celebrating India@80, America@250
India and America are like two friends having a big birthday party together.
India just turned 80 years old as an independent country, and America turned 250 years old.
People from India who live in America wanted to celebrate both birthdays.
They put up more than 1,300 American flags surrounded by Indian flags to make the number 250.
An organization called Guinness World Records said this was a world record.
The celebration happened in a park in Parsippany, New Jersey, where important leaders spoke.
Buildings in New York and Boston glowed with India's colors.
A big parade with music and dancing was planned for the next day in New York City.
A Guinness World Record for the 'Largest Flagpole Number' was set at Veterans Memorial Park in Parsippany, New Jersey.
More than 1,300 US flags surrounded by Indian tricolours were arranged to form the number '250' for America's semiquincentennial.
The event was led by the Consulate General of India in New York with the Federation of Indian Associations NY-NJ-NE (FIA) and support from Zoho.
Speakers included New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Dale Caldwell, US Congresswoman Analilia Mejia, Consul General Binaya Srikanta Pradhan and Parsippany Mayor Pulkit Desai.
The record capped India@80 programmes across the US, ahead of FIA's 44th India Day Parade featuring the 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah' cast.
