Archbishop Says US Troops Can Disobey Questionable Orders
Archbishop Timothy Broglio, who leads the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, said that if U.S. soldiers are given orders that they think are wrong, it's okay for them to not follow those orders.
He is worried that some soldiers might be asked to do things that go against their morals.
This comes at a time when President Trump has talked about using the military in U.S. cities and even taking control of Greenland.
The archbishop thinks it's not right to take Greenland by force, especially since there are already agreements that allow the U.S. to have a military base there.
Other church leaders have also expressed concerns about Trump's policies and actions.
Archbishop Timothy Broglio stated it is morally acceptable for U.S. troops to disobey orders that go against their conscience.
Broglio expressed concern over potential morally questionable orders, especially in the context of Trump's comments on deploying troops in U.S. cities and potential military action in Greenland.
The archbishop emphasized that international law and personal moral principles should align, and he opposes the forceful annexation of Greenland.
Broglio is the latest church leader to raise concerns about Trump's demands, following similar statements from other archbishops regarding U.S. foreign policy and immigration agenda.
The Pentagon did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the archbishop's statements.
