Water Board Diverts 18 MGD During Krishna Pipeline Shutdown

During maintenance, water usually has to be removed from the Krishna Phase-II pipeline.

The water board found a way to send most of that water to a reservoir instead of letting it go to waste.

About 18 million gallons a day went to the Phase-III reservoir.

Only about 5 million gallons a day had to be released through scouring.

This helped workers empty the pipeline in eight hours instead of about 20.

The shorter process saved more than 12 hours and about ₹5 lakh in power costs.

Workers also replaced 48 air valves during the shutdown.

The board is looking at whether it can use similar connections at other pumping stations.
