Chingrighata Underpass Construction Stalls Orange Line Extension
Imagine they're building a new train line, the Orange Line, in Kolkata.
To finish it, they need to build a bridge over a busy road called Chingrighata.
But, to make the road safer for people walking, the police want them to build a special tunnel (underpass) first.
The company building the train line is ready to build the bridge in just a few weekends.
Building the tunnel, on the other hand, will take about a year.
The police are worried about safety, so they're making them build the tunnel before they can finish the train line.
So now the train line is delayed until the tunnel is built.
RVNL is preparing a detailed project report for a three-way underpass at Chingrighata.
The KMC has approved the underpass project.
Police require the underpass construction before granting traffic blocks for Orange Line work.
The extension of the Orange Line from Ruby to Sector V is stalled.
RVNL wants to launch spans over the crossing which would take six nights.
