Aadhaar Not Mandatory for Hotel Check-Ins Under New Framework

Aadhaar Not Mandatory for Hotel Check-Ins Under New Framework

Hotels still need to check who their guests are.

However, guests may not have to give hotels a photocopy of their Aadhaar card.

Under a proposed new system, hotels could verify identity digitally.

They would first need approval from UIDAI.

Guests could use a secure QR code, the Aadhaar App or approved technology.

The system is intended to reduce the amount of personal data hotels collect and store.

Aadhaar would not be the only acceptable identity document.

Passports, driving licences and voter ID cards could also be used if the hotel accepts them.
