Court Allows Trump to Keep National Guard in DC
A court has decided that President Trump can keep National Guard troops in Washington, D.C. for a longer time.
The court said that the president has the authority to do this.
The troops were first sent in August to help with security.
There has been some debate about keeping the troops there, especially after a recent shooting.
The court said that removing the troops now would cause a lot of problems for the service members.
The troops will stay at least until late February.
There are also other legal cases about similar troop deployments in other places.
A federal appeals court ruled that President Trump can keep National Guard troops in Washington, D.C.
The court found that the deployment was authorized under the president's authority as commander-in-chief and D.C. law.
The decision pauses a lower court order that had deemed the deployment likely unlawful.
The troops will remain in D.C. through at least late February, pending further legal proceedings.
The continued presence of troops has drawn scrutiny, especially after a recent shooting of two Guard members.
