India's Top Private Banks Show Strong Q1 Credit Growth
India's top private banks like HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, and Kotak Mahindra Bank have shown strong growth in loans during the first three months of the financial year.
This growth is mainly due to more companies taking loans.
Even though there are worries about the conflict in West Asia affecting supply chains, the banks say they have not been greatly impacted.
They have also reported that the quality of their loans is good, with fewer bad loans compared to last year.
However, they are keeping an eye on the monsoon rains, as weaker rains could affect rural areas in the future.
India's top four private banks reported strong credit growth in Q1, driven by corporate loan demand.
HDFC Bank's gross advances increased by 15.4% to ₹30.61 lakh crore, with retail loans growing 7.2% and corporate loans surging 18.6%.
ICICI Bank's total loan portfolio expanded by 20% year-on-year to ₹16.31 lakh crore, with retail loans up 12% and corporate loans up 18.5%.
Axis Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank also posted strong loan growth, with advances climbing 19% and 15% respectively.
Despite global uncertainties, banks maintained stable asset quality with year-on-year declines in non-performing assets (NPAs).
