BMC to Process 1,695 Engineer Transfers Online From October
The BMC is changing how some engineers are transferred to new jobs.
Starting October 1, a computer system will help decide their transfers, promotions and postings.
The system will look at the engineers’ choices, available jobs and staffing needs.
It is meant to make the process more transparent and reduce official interference.
There are 1,695 engineers included in the exercise.
So far, 836 of them have submitted their preferred locations or departments.
Engineers who did not submit choices may be moved automatically.
The BMC also has many unfilled engineering positions, especially among junior engineers.
The BMC will process transfers, promotions and postings for 1,695 engineers online from October 1 to 15.
The exercise covers 485 junior engineers, 1,070 sub-engineers and 140 assistant engineers with at least three years in one department.
A total of 836 engineers submitted one to five transfer preferences by the September 20 deadline.
The computerised system will verify preferences, tenure and vacancies before automatically generating postings.
The move follows a cash-for-transfer controversy involving 163 engineers and comes as the engineering cadre faces major vacancies.
