Delhi Protesters Demand Economic Criteria Instead of Caste Quotas

Delhi Protesters Demand Economic Criteria Instead of Caste Quotas

Hundreds of people gathered in Delhi to protest caste-based quotas.

They said government help should depend more on a person’s financial situation.

They wanted poor people from any caste to receive support for education, coaching, and fees.

Some also wanted income-based priority within existing quotas.

The protest was organized under the name Reservation Hatao Andolan.

Police and the Rapid Action Force detained several people at Jantar Mantar.

The protest had reportedly been approved for Ramlila Maidan instead.

The Union government says reservations are meant to address historical and social disadvantage, not only poverty.
