Guntur genomic centre inaugurated to expand precision cancer care
A new centre for studying genes has opened in Guntur.
Genes are instructions inside our bodies that can sometimes show health risks.
Doctors will use the centre to find some genetic disorders early.
It can also help identify cancer risks in families.
The centre will study certain lung and breast cancer types.
This may help doctors choose treatments that better match each patient.
People will no longer need to send some testing samples to Bengaluru or Hyderabad.
Officials also said that millions of people have received free screening for three common cancers.
The government is developing more cancer treatment centres in several cities.
Minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav inaugurated an Integrated Genomic Sequencing Centre at NATCO Cancer Centre in Guntur.
The centre was established in collaboration with AstraZeneca and Strand Life Sciences.
Genomic sequencing will support early detection of genetic disorders, cancer-risk assessment and personalised treatment.
Patients can receive genetic tests locally instead of sending samples to Bengaluru or Hyderabad.
The state has screened around 2.65 crore people for oral, breast and cervical cancers, officials said.
