UPI Plans Biometric Authentication for Secure Transactions
Imagine paying with your phone, but instead of typing a secret code, you could use your face or fingerprint.
The people who run UPI, a way to pay digitally in India, are working on this.
They want to make it safer than codes because codes can be stolen.
Your face or fingerprint data will be turned into a secret code that your bank checks to make sure it's you.
This system is still being worked on, and will need to be approved by the government.
At first, there might be a limit on how much money you can send with this new way of paying.
NPCI is developing biometric authentication for UPI transactions.
The feature aims to enhance security and replace PINs.
Biometric data will be encrypted and a public key will be sent to the bank for verification.
Face recognition is the initial focus, using existing device data.
Rollout is pending approvals and may include value limits.
