CID raids Jharkhand over JPSC exam irregularities amid student protest

In a state of India called Jharkhand, detectives called the CID are looking into cheating in government job exams run by a group called the JPSC.

On Thursday they searched many places to arrest seven people named in the case.

Some reports say the seven were arrested, but one report says no arrests had been made yet, so the exact result is unclear.

The police had already arrested 20 people, including the former head of the JPSC, Mr. L Khiangte.

Three other JPSC leaders also quit their jobs after being asked to come in for questioning.

The detectives are now checking answer sheets, called OMR carbon copies, to gather more evidence.

Many students think the exams were unfair, so a student group called ABVP held protests in many cities asking for a bigger investigation by the CBI.

Students in Ranchi have been protesting for 21 days and plan a special 'Tiranga Yatra' on Independence Day, August 15.

Some protesting leaders are on hunger strike, and talks with the government were planned for August 14.
