Delhi Nursing Home Ordered to Pay Rs 20 Lakh for Medical Negligence
A woman named Samreen went to a nursing home in Delhi after a home pregnancy test showed she was pregnant.
The doctor there did not do proper tests and just gave her medicines.
Samreen kept feeling pain and bleeding, but the doctor did not do any ultrasound or proper checks.
Later, she found out she had a serious problem called ectopic pregnancy, which caused her to lose her ability to have babies.
The court said the nursing home and the doctor were wrong and ordered the nursing home to pay her Rs 20 lakh as compensation.
The doctor was also found to have lied about her qualifications.
Samreen visited Family Health Care Centre in Daryaganj in July 2020 for pregnancy-related issues.
The doctor, Dr. Kuljit Kaur Gill, prescribed medicines without proper examination or tests.
Samreen's condition worsened, leading to a ruptured ectopic pregnancy and removal of her fallopian tube.
The Delhi Medical Council found Dr. Gill guilty of negligence and misrepresentation of qualifications.
The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission ordered the nursing home to pay Rs 20 lakh as compensation.
