Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi Challenge 17-Year Jail Term
Imran Khan, a former prime minister of Pakistan, and his wife Bushra Bibi were sentenced to 17 years in jail for allegedly buying a very expensive jewelry set at a much lower price.
This jewelry was a gift from the Saudi crown prince.
They say the case is politically motivated and that they followed all the rules.
They have now asked a higher court to cancel their sentence and set them free.
Imran Khan is already in jail for another case and has more trials coming up.
Bushra Bibi is also serving a sentence in the same corruption case.
Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi filed appeals against their 17-year jail term in the Toshakhana 2 case.
They were convicted for allegedly purchasing a Bulgari jewellery set valued at PKR 80 million for PKR 2.9 million.
The defence argues the conviction is politically motivated and procedurally flawed.
The appeals claim the investigation was rushed and lacked proper legal foundation.
The defence maintains the couple followed the Toshakhana policy and rules regarding gift retention.
