Calcutta HC denies TMC access to frozen accounts
The Calcutta High Court recently decided not to allow the Trinamool Congress, led by Mamata Banerjee, to use three of their bank accounts that were frozen by the Enforcement Directorate.
These accounts have a total of Rs 440.42 crore.
The ED froze them because they suspect the party of doing some financial wrongdoings, like collecting money illegally and moving it around through different accounts.
The ED found that about Rs 160 crore was moved to a company called Carewell Aviation India Pvt.
Ltd., and then Rs 82.96 crore was moved to another new company.
Out of this, Rs 112 crore was used to buy a fancy plane and a helicopter.
The court had to decide whether to let the party use the money while the investigation is going on, but they said no for now.
Calcutta High Court refused to allow the TMC to operate three frozen bank accounts.
The accounts contain Rs 440.42 crore frozen by the Enforcement Directorate.
The ED alleges financial misconduct, including illegal money collection and routing.
