Guinea's coup leader cleared to run for president
The leader of Guinea, who took power in a coup, is now allowed to run for president.
He had previously said he wouldn't, but a new rule in the country's constitution makes it possible.
Some other important people who might have wanted to run can't because they are too old or don't meet residency rules.
The election is set for December 28 and is supposed to bring the country back to being run by elected civilians.
The leader will be running against less well-known candidates.
Guinea's coup leader, Mamady Doumbouya, is among nine candidates approved to run for president.
The election is scheduled for December 28 and aims to transition Guinea to civilian rule.
Doumbouya initially vowed not to run but a new constitution opened the possibility.
Former President Alpha Conde and ex-PM Cellou Dalein Diallo are ineligible due to age and residency rules.
Doumbouya will be running as an independent against lesser-known candidates.
