US-Iran standoff deepens as diplomacy and military threats continue
The United States and Iran are arguing while their conflict continues.
Iran says it captured another American underwater vehicle near the Strait of Hormuz.
The United States says that claim is false and that it still controls its underwater drones.
Iran wants the strait reopened only if American economic pressure is reduced.
President Trump rejected Iran’s plan to reopen it after seven days.
Both countries have used strong language about being ready for more fighting.
At the same time, officials are discussing possible indirect talks, possibly with Qatar’s help.
Other security incidents, including arrests near a British airbase, have added to the tension.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed they seized a second US underwater vehicle in the Strait of Hormuz, while Washington denied losing control of its drone fleet.
President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s seven-day plan to reopen the strait, calling it evidence of Tehran’s weakening position.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran would maintain its conditions, remain prepared for renewed war, and stay open to diplomacy.
US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz described Iran’s proposal as a cynical attempt to obtain sanctions relief, frozen assets, and an end to the naval blockade.
UK police arrested five men over a possible Iran-linked plot near RAF Fairford, while reports said four Iranian specialists were killed in Yemen’s Taiz province.
