Calcutta High Court Rejects Railway Job Plea After 51 Years

The petitioner wanted a railway job because his father had served during a railway strike in 1974.

His father was rewarded with an extra pay increase for continuing to work.

The father retired in 1977.

The family first asked for the job in 1986, nine years later.

The court said compassionate jobs are meant to help families quickly when a worker suddenly dies or cannot work.

Because the family managed to live for nine years before applying, the court said there was no proof of immediate poverty.

The case also remained unresolved through several legal proceedings.

The Calcutta High Court therefore rejected the request.
