BRS opposes draft Seeds Bill
The BRS, a political party in India, is very upset about a new draft law called the Seeds Bill.
They think this law will let big companies control seed prices and make it harder for state governments to help farmers.
The BRS says the law doesn't do enough to stop fake seeds or make sure farmers get paid if they use bad seeds.
They also think the law will let the central government take too much control over seeds, which should be handled by the states.
The BRS has already told the government their concerns and plans to hold a meeting to discuss this further.
The new law is supposed to make seed rules better, ensure good quality seeds, and let more seeds be imported from other countries.
Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of SKLTHU suggests that the Centre should adopt Telangana's Nursery Act as a national model to improve horticulture regulations.
This Act ensures quality and traceability of planting materials, which the Vice Chancellor believes should be integrated into the Seeds Bill 2025.
BRS strongly opposes the draft Seeds Bill 2025 proposed by the NDA government.
The bill is alleged to favor corporate interests over farmers and weaken state governments' roles.
BRS has submitted feedback rejecting the bill, citing lack of clarity on curbing spurious seeds and timely compensation for farmers.
The draft bill undermines state governments' role in regulating seed prices and lacks provisions for blacklisting companies for fake seeds.
