CAQM Seeks Review of SC Order on End-of-Life Vehicles
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) wants the Supreme Court to review its orders about old vehicles.
They say that vehicles with old emission standards (BS-III and below) should be excluded because they pollute more.
The CAQM also wants to increase a charge on big diesel cars to help reduce pollution.
They have data showing that many vehicles in Delhi-NCR are old and pollute a lot.
The Supreme Court had earlier stopped actions against these old vehicles, and the CAQM wants to change that.
CAQM seeks review of Supreme Court's August 12 order pausing action against end-of-life vehicles.
CAQM wants BS-III and below vehicles excluded from the court order due to higher emission potential.
CAQM also seeks a review of the 2016 order to increase the environment protection charge on luxury diesel cars and SUVs.
Data shows 37% of 2.88 crore vehicles in Delhi-NCR are BS-III and below, emitting significantly more pollutants.
CAQM's April order to deny fuel to end-of-life vehicles was deferred till November 1 due to public discontent and operational challenges.
