IndiGo's Business Class 'Stretch' Marks One Year with Mixed Results
IndiGo, a big airline in India, started a special business class service called IndiGoStretch a year ago.
They planned to use many new planes and fly on many busy routes in India.
However, after one year, they haven't flown on as many routes as they first planned.
They also started using this service on flights to other countries.
The service is a bit different depending on the plane and where you are flying.
Sometimes passengers get hot meals and lounge access, but other times they get cold meals and no lounge.
IndiGo is still figuring out how to make this service work best, especially since other airlines are also changing their own premium offerings.
IndiGoStretch, IndiGo's business class product, launched one year ago on the Mumbai-Delhi route.
The initial plan included inducting 45 aircraft and operating on 12 domestic routes by the end of 2025.
Currently, IndiGoStretch is operational on seven domestic routes and has expanded to international destinations like Bangkok, Singapore, Dubai, and cities in Europe.
The product accounts for only 0.6% of IndiGo's total seats, and services vary, with international flights offering hot meals and lounge access while domestic and some other international flights offer cold meals.
IndiGo has recalibrated its strategy, deploying the product on international sectors and using damp-leased Dreamliners from Norse Atlantic, while its own A350s with a business class product are expected after 2027.
