India's Fuel Demand Shifts: PNG Rises, LPG Falls
In July, India used more piped natural gas because some businesses switched from LPG, which fell by 17%.
Petrol sales went up by almost 10% compared to last year, but they were a little lower than in June.
Diesel sales also grew a lot, about 11% higher than last year, because farmers needed more diesel to pump water for crops.
Aviation fuel grew a bit too, but it was a little less than in June.
The late start of the monsoon made farmers use more diesel and helped fuel sales rise overall.
Piped natural gas demand rose as commercial and industrial users shifted from LPG, causing a 17.4% drop in LPG sales.
Combined petrol sales by Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd increased 9.7% YoY to 3.45 million tonnes.
Diesel sales climbed 10.7% YoY to 7.12 million tonnes, driven by delayed monsoon rains boosting irrigation pump use.
Aviation turbine fuel sales grew 2.9% YoY to 659,900 tonnes, while month‑on‑month sales fell 4.6% from June.
Seasonal factors caused a 1.1% drop in petrol and 9.2% drop in diesel sales from June to July.
