Forest Department Urges Action on Elephant Deaths from Electricity Wires
In Bhopal, the Head of Forest Force has asked for a review of electricity lines in areas where elephants move.
This is because elephants have been dying after touching these lines.
Before 2018, elephants didn't move around much in these areas, so the lines weren't made safe for them.
Now, there are more than 20 elephants in Shahdol, and they sometimes come near fields.
The forest officers want to make sure the lines are high enough so elephants don't get hurt.
They also think elephants remember old paths and follow them, even if the area has changed.
Head of Forest Force (HoFF) V. N. Ambade calls for a review of electricity line heights in Shahdol and Rewa circles to prevent elephant deaths.
Elephants have been dying after coming into contact with electricity lines in the past, with recent incidents in Anupur and Katni.
Before 2018, elephant movement in the area was not considered while laying electricity lines.
A herd of more than 20 elephants has settled in the Shahdol division, originating from Chhattisgarh.
Forest officers believe elephants follow ancestral paths and urge correctional measures to ensure their safe movement.
