CPM Urges ECI to Protect Eligible Voters During Roll Revision
V Srinivasa Rao asked election officials to make sure eligible people can stay on the voter list.
He was speaking about a review of electoral rolls.
He said the deadline for people to raise claims or objections should continue until the end of the month.
A 10-day extension has been announced, but he said it is not enough.
He wants officials to visit voters at home instead of making many people travel to offices.
Officials should check the documents voters have and correct small mistakes themselves.
Rao also said people should not lose their voter registration just because they cannot show documents during verification.
He said extra checks should be done when needed so every eligible citizen can vote.
CPM state secretary V Srinivasa Rao asked the Election Commission of India to ensure no eligible voter is excluded from electoral rolls.
He called for extending the Special Intensive Revision claims and objections deadline until the end of the month.
Rao said the recently announced 10-day extension was welcome but insufficient.
He opposed summoning large numbers of voters to offices and urged officials to conduct door-to-door verification instead.
He said voter names should not be deleted for missing documents or minor errors, and called for re-verification where necessary.
