Anti-Encroachment Drive Underway to Restore Ranchi's Hinoo River
The Hinoo River in Ranchi, once a vital water source, was becoming a waste-filled drain due to illegal construction.
Now, the government is removing these structures to restore the river.
This is happening because the Jharkhand High Court ordered action after seeing how much the river had shrunk due to encroachments.
Officials are using the Jharkhand Public Land Encroachment Act to remove unauthorized buildings.
The drive started in March and targets structures along the river, from simple shacks to houses.
The goal is to clear the riverbed and allow the river to flow freely again, with the help of Ranchi Municipal Corporation.
In 2014 there were 101 encroachers and by 2024 that increased to 145, all are being removed.
