Telangana Excise Department Fails Revenue Targets
The Telangana Excise Department has been having a hard time making as much money as the government wanted from selling liquor.
They set very high goals, but the department didn't have a good plan to reach them.
Even though they raised the prices of beer and liquor, the money they made didn't grow much.
In the first five months of the 2025-2026 financial year, they only made about half of what they aimed for.
The government wanted a 15% increase in revenue each year, but the actual growth was only about 2-3%.
The department is now struggling to catch up.
Telangana Excise Department failed to meet annual revenue targets from liquor sales for the past two years.
Revenue from liquor sales remained static in 2024 and 2025, with only a 2-3% growth rate.
The government set a 15% annual growth target, but the department only achieved 48% of the target by October 2025.
The total revenue target for 2025-2026 was Rs 27,600 crore, but only Rs 13,290 crore was generated by October.
The current excise policy period runs from December 2025 to November 2027.
