Tripura Village Polls Record 75 Percent Turnout by 4 PM
Tripura held elections for local village committees in its tribal areas.
Voting took place across eight districts at 1,095 polling stations.
Officials said turnout was more than 20 percent in the morning and reached 75 percent by 4 p.m.
The election covered 2,950 seats because some seats had already been won without a contest.
The BJP and its tribal allies competed against the Left Front and Congress.
Most polling was peaceful and many voters waited in long lines.
Police said one Tipra Motha Party candidate was shot and two other people were injured in one incident.
More than 15,000 security personnel were deployed.
Officials will count the votes on October 5.
